What is a licensed sponsor?
A licensed sponsor is a UK employer or education provider approved by the Home Office to sponsor migrants on routes like the Skilled Worker visa or Student visa. Only licensed sponsors can issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
What does an A-rating mean?
An A-rating means the sponsor meets all of its compliance duties. Most licensed sponsors are A-rated. This is required to assign new Certificates of Sponsorship.
What does a B-rating mean?
A B-rating means the Home Office found compliance issues and the sponsor is on an improvement action plan. B-rated sponsors usually cannot assign new Certificates of Sponsorship until they regain an A-rating, so a job offer from a B-rated sponsor carries risk.
My employer is not in the results — what does that mean?
It means the exact name searched does not appear on the current register. Try searching a shorter form of the company name, or check the trading name against the registered legal name. If it genuinely is not listed, the employer cannot sponsor a Skilled Worker or Student visa.
